Russian Orthodox Churches
More then 1000 years the Christian faith is in Russia and the architecutre of the Russian Orthodox Churches reflects the Russian national character and soul of Russian people. Russian architecture has been predominantly religious. Churches were for centuries the only buildings to be constructed of stone, and today they are almost the only buildings that remain from its ancient past.

The Trinity Church was built in the patrimony of Boris Godunov, presented to him after the victory over the khan Kazy-Gyrey. The precise date is unknown, but according to analysis of historical facts by Andrew Batalov (architect, doctor of art history) the most probable date is 1596-98.

The Trinity Church in Kchoroshevo is small and elegant. Its high building is crowned by the hillock consisted of four rows of vertical kokoshnics*. The cupola (dome) drum has 8 windows, framed with blind arcade.Special construction of the vault gives the opportunity to heighten the arch of the main church and makes "the hillock of kokoshnicks" look more vertical. The vault is separated from the walls of the church building with the help of cornice. The plastics of the facades represent certain decorative elements of the Kremlin Archangel Cathedral. Evidently it was connected with its role of Moscow royal necropolis.

Info:
*Kokoshnik - a purely decorative architectural feature. Semi-circular in shape, often rising to a point (like the mediaeval Russian head-dress of the same name worn by married women) and framed by rich moulding. They are often found in diminishing tiers at the base of tent-shaped roofs and dome drums.
